Animal Control – Trap Request   –  Request this Service
Select to request a humane trap for the capture of a cat or dog. The citizen must pickup the trap from Animal Control Office. A cash deposit may be required.

Basketball Goal in Right-of-Way   –  Request this Service
Select to request the removal of a basketball goal from a public street/roadway or the City right of way.

Bulk Trash Pickup   –  Request this Service
Select to submit a bulk trash pickup request. Requests must be received no later than 11:59 P.M. the day prior to your regular collection day. The city WILL NOT collect construction materials (drywall, bricks, concrete, etc), hazardous materials (paint cans, oil, pesticides, etc.), or tree trunks, logs or stumps that exceed 4 feet in length and 6 inches in diameter. The city WILL collect items such as furniture, hot-water heaters, tree limbs cut to a maximum of 4 feet in length and 6 inches in diameter. Leaves, grass clippings and wood mulch must be in clear bags. Glass and mirrors must be taped to prevent breakage. Please remove doors from all appliances. Bulk collection is limited to a total maximum volume of 4′ wide x 4′ high x 4′ long per week. A new solid waste ordinance goes into effect January 1, 2012. Dead Animal In or Along Roadway   –  Request this Service
Select to request pick-up of dead animals located in the City’s right-of-way or in the roadway. The city does not enter private property or dispose of pets or farm animals. Domestic animals may be taken to the Chesapeake Animal Shelter at 3807 Cook Blvd. in the Cavalier Industrial Park

Debris Accumulation – Existing Property   –  Request this Service
Select “Bulk Trash/Waste Pickup” to request bulk collection of items such as discarded furniture, hot-water heaters, tree limbs, household appliances. The City will not pickup construction materials or hazardous materials. Select this request to report a code violation of debris/trash accumulating on existing residential or business property. This request will result in a building inspector visiting the location to cite the property owner for debris accumulation. For new construction debris/trash issues, please use the “Debris/Trash – New Construction” Service Request type.

For bulk pickup collections, please use the “Bulk Trash/Waste Pickup” service request type. Select this request to report an issue with debris/trash on new construction sites. Ditch – Blocked   –  Request this Service
Select to report a ditch that is blocked. Residents are reminded that it is illegal to dump leaves, grass clippings and debris into drainage systems. Ditches should never be burned or sprayed with defoliants. Vegetation in ditches provides stability to the banks and natural filtration of stormwater. Please note: the city does not clean leaves from ditches in residential areas.

Select to request mowing of the grass and weeds within the City right of way, which includes medians or shoulders. The City does not mow medians located within sub-divisions. It is the neighborhood civic league, Homeowner Association or private resident’s responsibility to maintain those areas.. The mowing contract only covers medians located on public roadways and City right-of-ways. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Select to request a Building, Electrical, Gas, Mechanical or Plumbing inspection for which you have a current permit issued by the City of Chesapeake. Requests for an inspection the next day must be submitted no later than 3:00pm the business day prior to the requested date to be accepted. City trash containers must be at curbside by 7:00am on the scheduled pickup day. Report a missed container by calling 382-2489 before 8:30am on the business day following your collection day. If the container was curbside by 7am and missed on your collection day, Waste Management will make every effort to complete the collection on the next business day if the schedule allows.

Select to request maintenance or repair of basketball, soccer, softball, football, etc. athletic field equipment.

Pool – (Under Construction) Unsafe   –  Request this Service
Select to report unsafe conditions surrounding residential pools under construction. Primarily deals with lack of fence/barriers around pools.

Portable Storage Containers/Dumpsters   –  Request this Service
Select to notify the Zoning Office of the placement or use of portable storage containers (no larger than 8′x8.5′x16). These include PODS, MODS and similar containers and is placed in the driveway of a single family residential property as well as containers for hauling of waste and debris (dumpsters) placed in the driveway of property zoned or used for residential property. NOTE: The City of Chesapeake does not provide portable storage or waste containers.

Property Maintenance Violation   –  Request this Service
Select to report violations of the Property Maintenance Code to include: painting, deterioration, unsafe conditions, lack of proper facilities ,etc.

Recreational Vehicle – In Front Yard   –  Request this Service
Select to report recreational type vehicle parked in front yard. This applies only to vehicles on the yard (anywhere between a house and the street, which includes a side yard). Vehicles can include trailers, campers, boats, jet skis, race cars, car trailers, etc., (licensed and unlicensed).

Recycling Can – Exchange for Different Size (Blue Can)   –  Request this Service
Select to request replacement of the blue recycling container with a different size blue recycling container. All blue containers are on wheels. Containers must be placed curbside on your regular collection day in order to be replaced. The containers come in three sizes, 96-gallon, 64-gallon and 35-gallon. City employees cannot enter private property to exchange the container.

Recycling Can – Repair (Blue Can)   –  Request this Service
Select to request repair of the blue automated recycling container provided by the City of Chesapeake. Please leave the container curbside. Repairs will be completed within two business days, weather permitting. To request the repair of a brown trash container, select “Trash Can – Repair (Brown Can)”.

Recycling Can – Replace – Damaged/Truck Took (Blue Can)   –  Request this Service
Select to request replacement of the big blue automated recycling container that was damaged during collection or fell into Tidewater Fiber’s collection truck. To request a replacement brown trash can, select “Trash Can – Replacement (Brown Can)”.

Select to report or request information regarding setbacks and height violations on houses and garages.

Sidewalk Repair   –  Request this Service
Select to report or request sidewalk repair. Sidewalks are a part of the overall transportation system in the City. They are typically constructed of concrete. Concrete by its nature can develop cracks at locations other than formed joints. The first priority of sidewalk maintenance is to remove tripping hazards that may occur.

Sign – Installation – Engineering   –  Request this Service
Select to request sign installation. The City will not place signs in any median except traffic control signs. Signs identifying “Neighborhoods” are the responsibility of the Homeowners Association or Civic League.

Select to report Temporary (Illegal) Signs – refers to advertising, real estate, political, banners, yard sale signs or any other type of temporary sign.

Skateboard Ramp – Violation   –  Request this Service
Select to report skateboard ramps that may be in violation of the City of Chesapeake’s zoning ordinance.

Stormwater – Storm Drain/Ditch Contamination   –  Request this Service
Select to report storm drain contamination. Citizens may also call 382-City (M-F, 8am-5pm) to report contamination. Please help reduce pollution by remembering to keep potential pollutants, including pool water away from storm drains. Never throw or dump anything down a storm drain; not only can this contaminate local waters, but it can also contribute to flooding by blocking drains and ditches.

Street Light – Repair Request   –  Request this Service
Select to report street light outages. If possible, please have the power pole identification tag information available when reporting the problem. The tag will list a combination of letters and numbers. This information is helpful in processing your request. The City notifies the Virginia Dominion Power of outages called in by citizens as a courtesy. Outages are typically resolved within 10-15 work days. If the problem is more than a burnt out bulb, repairs may take longer.

Streets – Curb and Gutter Damage   –  Request this Service
Select to report a damaged curb and/or gutter.

Streets – Debris/Litter (Right of Way – Non Road)   –  Request this Service
Select to report debris or litter located in the city’s right of way. For objects in the ROADWAY that may effect traffic, please call the Customer Contact Center at 382-2489 between the hours of 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday. To report objects in the roadway after the Customer Contact Center’s regular business hours, please call the Police Department non-emergency number 382-6161 option 2.

Select to request marking or repainting of street lines or crosswalks.

Streets – Pothole Repair   –  Request this Service
Select to report or request pothole repair. The normal response time for pothole repair during the summer months is 3-4 days. Response time in winter months is longer, depending on weather conditions and the availability of supplies.

Streets – Shoulder Repair   –  Request this Service
Select to report or request road/street shoulder repair.

Streets – Vegetation Control in ROW   –  Request this Service
Select to request remove buildup of grass, weeds, and debris from curb & gutter in rights of way along primary streets. Perform edging in rights of way along sidewalks and curbs in non residential areas. Trim bushes and trees along sidewalk.

Traffic Signal Maintenance   –  Request this Service
Select to report malfuctioning traffic lights including issues such as burnt out bulbs, flashing lights or cycle timing of the traffic light.

Trash Can-Repair (Brown Can)   –  Request this Service
Select to request the repair of a damaged City issued brown trash container. The City will replace damaged or missing wheels, lids, hinge pins, etc. at no charge to the resident provided damage is due to normal wear and tear. PLEASE CHOOSE RECYCLING CAN – REPAIR (BLUE CAN) TO REQUEST REPAIRS TO THE BLUE RECYCLING CONTAINERS.

Trash Can-Replacement (Brown Can)   –  Request this Service
Select to request a replacement brown trash can for an existing home. For cans damaged by fire/vandalism, the citizen must purchase a replacement can for a fee of $68.25 at the Treasurer’s Office, 1st Floor, City Hall. To request a City container for a NEWLY Constucted home, select “Trash Container – Residential New Construction (Brown Can)”. To request a replacement recycling container, select “Recycling -Can Replacement (Blue Can)”.

Trash Can-Residential New Construction (Brown Can)   –  Request this Service
Select to request a City-issued brown trash container for a newly constructed home. The City provides one container at no charge. You may purchase a second container for a one time fee of $68.25. You must prepay for the container in person at any City Treasurer’s Office or mail the payment to the Treasurer’s Office at 306 Cedar Rd., Chesapeake, VA, 23322. Specify the payment is for a second brown trash container. The City will collect a maximum of two brown containers per household.

Select to report a vehicle damaged beyond reasonable repair, missing a license plate or inspection sticker. Vehicle must be on PRIVATE property to be reported here.
